Looking back at the Issey Chivers Quartet

We were delighted to invite these newcomers to our theatre in January. Issey Chivers is a vocalist, based in Leeds. Influenced by greats such as Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Amy Winehouse and Eva Cassidy, her project, The Issey Chivers Quartet, is a group that allows her to use her voice creatively, exploring dreamy soundscapes and driving grooves. 

She played a repertoire inspired by the music of artists like Veronica Swift, Jazzmeia Horn and Emma Smith.  Their set of both arrangements of standards and originals encompassed playful melodies and thoughtful improvisation. The group features Issey Chivers (voice) and excellent instrumentalists and improvisers – Joseph Frost-Tesfaye (piano), Chris Williams (double bass) and Senan McCullough (drums). The Issey Chivers Quartet draws on the jazz tradition while merging moments of folk and singer-songwriter influence.
